The World Travel Market (WTM) has launched a call for applications for the first edition of the Africa Travel & Tourism Awards, in 12 categories that reward individuals, small and large organizations, for their work in promoting tourism in Africa.
The WTM Africa Travel & Tourism Awards are to be judged by an independent panel of high level professionals and seek to present the best in the tourism and travel industry.
Megan Oberholzer, Portfolio Manager: Travel, Tourism & Sports Portfolio at Reed Exhibitions, said
« We want to recognize the’standard of reference’ in the field of travel and tourism in Africa by sharing their fascinating stories, in the hope of inspiring others to take over. Africa has many stories to tell, and we want to share them everywhere.
The category names are a nod to the types of entries judges are looking for, with the story of the journey – rather than just the result – in the foreground. The 12 categories are: the most convincing story of the National Tourist Office; the most convincing regional/urban history; the most convincing history of technology and innovation; the most convincing agency story; the most convincing public relations story; Most compelling digital campaign in Tourism Story; Most compelling story of Digital Influencer; Most compelling wellness destination story; Most compelling story of responsible tourism; Most compelling adventure story; Most compelling food story and most compelling inclusive story.
Only campaigns carried out between 1 January and 31 December 2019 will be eligible for the WTM Africa Travel & Tourism Awards 2020. Registrations close on 31 January 2020 and winners will be announced at the launch of WTM Africa 2020 on 6 April at the Gold Restaurant in Cape Town.
