Dubrovnik, Split, Hvar, Zagreb… So many Croatian tourism stars. The destination in the heart of the Mediterranean recorded excellent results for the first half of 2019 with a +5.4% increase in arrivals from France. Full cardboard with a length of stay that also increases for the French (+2.98% for overnight stays over the first six months).
But beyond these major tourist centres, Croatia also has many treasures to discover off the beaten track. From the perched villages of Istria in the north of the country, to Konavle in southern Dalmatia, an overview of some secret places to discover on a future trip to Croatia, by land or why not by sea.
Porec: Istrian Treasury
Porec, a peninsula, is a very small town that has the particularity of having preserved its Roman arteries.
Porec is also home to many historical treasures, including the sublime Basilica of Euphrasia, a masterpiece of Byzantine art listed as a UNESCO World Heritage Site and with beautifully preserved mosaics.
Vis: Lost Paradise of Dalmatia
Vis, the westernmost island of Dalmatia, has become the heart destination of all Croatians: the place has remained intact and has kept its entire soul.
In addition, the island has a unique history.
About ten villages dot the island, while the rest of the land is covered with vineyards producing very good wine: Vugava and Plavac. It is the final touch that reinforces the reputation of what is nicknamed « the most beautiful island in Croatia ».
Pula: Beach and Roman ruins
Pula is a city with a natural port at the tip of the Istrian peninsula.
The Venetian fortress perched on a hill is the heart of the city centre and contains most of the historical remains around it.
Pula also has a rich natural heritage thanks to its beautiful beaches, but also and above all thanks to the Brijuni Islands National Park, an archipelago composed of 14 islands and a very rich fauna and flora through which you can enjoy real safaris.
