Never seen before in Las Vegas

Nevada State Governor Steve Sisolak has ordered the closure of all Las Vegas casinos for one month to contain the proliferation of VIDOC-19 . After a forced closure of hotel complexes in Macao several weeks ago, major casino operators are preparing for some financial problems.

Most casino operators have already begun closing iconic establishments on the Strip and in downtown Las Vegas. MGM Resorts International had already announced the closure of Bellagio, MGM Grand, Mandalay Bay, The Mirage, Luxor, New York-New York and Park MGM. Wynn Resorts also unilaterally closed Wynn Las Vegas and Encore.

A major impact for Nevada

The closure of the casinos will have a significant impact on the State’s finances, as it is its second largest source of tax revenue. In addition, the leisure and hotel industry directly employs 25% of all government workers and a good proportion of indirect employment is dependent on the leisure industry. Casinos claim state aid!

Not enough test kits in the US

There are reportedly 10,442 people infected (as of March 19) in Donald Trump’s country. The number of cases of coronavirus in Nevada reached at least 150 on Friday, March 20, according to local health authorities. This includes the first cases in the rural counties of Nye and Elko.

Two deaths have been reported in Clark County. Sisolak said Friday that the state does not have enough test kits to know the full extent of infections in the state.

The governor said he begged the federal government to do more, but no estimate of a delivery schedule could be given.
