As part of a programme to expand the Costa Group’s fleet, which includes 7 new ships delivered by 2023 for an investment of more than 6 billion in 2019 marks the commissioning of two new Costa vessels. The next one will be Costa Venezia, baptized in Trieste, Italy on March 1, 2019. This is the largest ship ever introduced on the the Chinese market by the company, present in the region since 2006.
With 135,500 gross registered tonnes, 323 metres in length and a capacity of over 5,100 passengers, the Costa Venezia – currently under construction at the Fincantieri shipyard Monfalcone in Italy – provides a whole series of new innovations designed especially for customers Chinese, to introduce them to Italian culture, style and elegance, starting with spaces interiors inspired by the city of Venice.
This ship will allow Chinese guests to experience unique of Italian and Venetian culture. The ship’s theatre will be inspired by La Fenice, a famous opera by Venice; the main hall will recall St. Mark’s Square, while the restaurants will reproduce the architecture typical of the city’s alleys and squares. Real gondolas made by Squero di craftsmen San Trovaso will also be on board and a costume party will recreate the enchanted atmosphere of the the famous Venice Carnival.
Passengers will be able to taste the tasty specialities of the gastronomy Italian, go shopping in the onboard shops where famous Italian brands will be present and enjoy « Italian-style » entertainment. However, they will also feel at home with a wide choice of Chinese dishes, karaoke and evenings such as the « Golden Party » with plenty of
surprises.
The program of baptismal celebrations will be announced in the coming weeks, it should be noted that it will involve the entire city of Trieste – which is the setting for the second baptism of a Costa ship after the Costa Favolosa in 2011. Among the festivities, a large fireworks display will be visible from the Pizza Unità d’Italia and the company plan to broadcast the ribbon-cutting ceremony on giant screens.
Approximately 1,500 guests are expected for this event. They will come from China, Korea, Japan and several European countries including France, and will have the opportunity to discover Trieste and its region, as the ship will be moored in the city’s port until March 3, 2019, the date of departure of its first cruise.
The first opening cruise of Costa Venezia, will leave Trieste on March 3, 2019 for the Greece and Croatia. On March 8, the ship will return to Trieste to begin its cruise inaugural: an exceptional 53-day journey in the footsteps of Marco Polo who will cross the Mediterranean, the Middle East, South and East Asia, to end in Tokyo.
