Holiday Hotels : Why these cascading cancellations

Some major holiday hotel chains have just publicly admitted that they have recorded a high number of cancellations, representing between 60 % and 70 % of global bookings, depending on the week, due to new sources of contagion and coronavirus epidemics, which are leading many tourists to cancel their reservations due to the uncertainty caused by covid-19..

«  To boost sales, some hotel companies have promoted the possibility of free cancellations, which explains the high rate and how this complicates planning » explains an industry professional.

The powerful hotel group Meliá, for example, thus ensures that these « global » cancellations are mainly concentrated on old bookings and not on new bookings, the cancellation rate for the latter being only 20%.
