If the fast train project between Singapore and Kuala Lumpur has lead in the wing following political changes in Malaysia Bangkok continues the commissioning of new railway lines and a new station in Bangkok in cooperation with China.

A huge station in town by 2020

A new station in Bangkok, which when it opens will be the largest in Southeast Asia, is transforming train travel in Thailand. Construction of Bang Sue Central Station is now over 50% complete and is expected to open in 2020. The new Bang Sue Central Station will cover more than 300,000 square metres, making it the largest in Southeast Asia.

A station that will connect three airports !

This station will host the high-speed line of the Eastern Economic Corridor which will link three airports: Don Mueang, Suvarnabhumi and U-Tapao (Pattaya). It will also become the hub for high-speed rail links from Thailand, Bangkok to Nong Khai and Bangkok to Chiang Mai.

A link to the north in close cooperation with China

Construction of a high-speed train between Bangkok and Nakhon Ratchasima in northeast Thailand is expected to start early next year. The 350 km high-speed train between Nakhon Ratchasima and Nong Khai, which faces Vientiane, the capital of Laos, will cross the Mekong River. Another bridge across the Mekong will be built to accommodate the high-speed railway, which is designed to link southern China to Thailand across Laos. The Chinese are very present in this strategic project!
