His Highness Sheikh Abdul Aziz Al Nuaimi, commonly known as « Green Sheikh » and a member of the Ajman Royal Family of the United Arab Emirates (UAE), is actively studying opportunities for environmental conservation and tourism in Rwanda.
Sheikh Abdul Aziz recently visited Akagera National Park with the staff of the Rwanda Development Council (RDB) in the carding of a global campaign for environmental protection, an area in which Rwanda excels.
Inside the Akagera National Park, the « Akagera Game Lodge » is a facility that Rwanda wants to sell in order to transform it into a luxury hotel.
According to a description of the establishment, the Lodge has 64 rooms, including a presidential suite and cottages. The lodge has been privatized, redeveloped and is wholly owned by the Rwanda Social Security Development Board (RSSB).
Leaving the Akagera National Park, His Highness Sheikh Abdul Aziz then travelled to Rukari – the Royal Palace Museum in Nyanza District before heading south to visit the Nyungwe National Park.
He also visited the « National Park of Volcanoes » in full expansion explaining in particular that « luxury tourism must take shape around and inside this habitat of 16,000 hectares which shelters the famous mountain gorillas, strictly respecting the various eco-systems » .
A recognized environmentalist, Sheikh Abdul Aziz is also a social activist in the countries of the Gulf Cooperation Council (GCC), as well as in the Arab world.
